Poster Condition
Posters were meant to be glued, taped or pinned up for a few weeks then ripped down and thrown out. They were printed on thin paper in most cases and were not meant to have a long life, the fact that they still exist today is nothing short of amazing. Paper is of course fragile and obtaining posters in mint condition is almost impossible. Most any vintage poster has condition issues and we let our customers know of any issues our posters may have. We hide nothing! Our grading system for condition of the posters is as follows.
Mint- Flawless, not a single condition issue.
Excellent- Near perfect, some minor imperfections such as small tears, light foxing on the paper, small stains.
Very good- Great shape with some more sizable tears or stains. Tape from when it may have been originally posted, Slight paper loss.
Good- Larger paper loss and staining, acidic tape repairs (not done by us, but rather a misguided attempt to fix the poster by others).
Fair- Heavy paper loss and staining, lots of acidic tape repairs (not done by us), tears throughout the entire poster. We don’t tend to offer posters in this condition. And we certainly don’t offer posters in worse shape than this.
Linen backing- Some of our posters have been linen backed which is a completely reversible conservation method that protects the paper and keeps it sturdy. It is an industry standard and is recommended for most posters for preservation purposes. If there has been restoration to any poster, it will be noted in the listing. We hide no condition issues!
We have some of the rarest posters ever to be printed from the worlds most major conflicts and we are always adding to our inventory, so check back regularly. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters and your satisfaction is guaranteed.
