This Is The Enemy Original MOMA National War Poster Competition Artwork
The purpose was to have posters created to boost morale for the war. Artists were asked to choose between 8 themes. Production, War Bonds, The Nature Of The Enemy, Loose Talk, Slave World Or Free World, The People Are On The March, Deliver Us From Evil, and Sacrifice. Only 9 winners were chosen, and this example, not one of the winners, was never printed into a poster. They were judged anonymously, so each original work had the artist's signature covered with tape for the assessment. The tape has been removed since but you can still tell it’s there. Other than the 9 winners of the competition, all art works were discarded by the MOMA in the 1980s. Only 6 of these art works are still known to exist. Gouache on artist board. NOTE: swaz on skeletons forehead edited out to comply with social media rules.
Price- $6,500
Condition- some water stains at edges. Otherwise excellent.
