Twice A Patriot! Ex-Private Obie Bartlett
WWII poster showing the patriotic duties of Obie Bartlett, a man who lost his arm in the Pearl Harbor attack. When he could no longer serve, he took a job as a ship welder on the west coast to help as best he could for the war effort. A true American patriot! Posters featuring black men were also used to help with race relations in factories, as the U.S. was still heavily segregated at the time. Since the war effort needed as many workers as possible, patriotic posters featuring black men were made to help prevent any potential race related issues on the homefront.
