Don’t Wait For This Original Poster Artwork by Herbert S. Kates
Amazing and one of a kind WWII original artwork for a poster that would help raise funds for ambulances in New Rochelle, NY. This poster follows the “it can happen here” theme as many posters of the time did, and then asks for donations form the public to help prevent it, in this case through making sure the city had enough ambulances. Herbert S. Kates (1894-1947) American Impressionist was the artist who we believe is behind this poster. It’s unsigned, but both this and the other New Rochelle Ambulance artwork we have were obtained at the same time from the same person and have the same theme from the same area, so we will credit him as the artist. He was a member of the New Rochelle Artists Association and the Society of Illustrators. He was also a known etcher, illustrator, and writer as well.
Measures 20x30”
NOTE: artwork has been wrapped in plastic to help preserve it.
Condition- good, some water damage and restoration, particularly in the top left corner.
