Simple Simon Don’t Talk About Military Matters Original Artwork And Poster By Zeke Zekley

$600.00

Zekley Don't Talk about Military Matters anti axis poster and original artwork. U.S. Zekley is a name to reckon with in the epic sweep of comics history. He was already working as a near-equal backup to master cartoonist George McManus on the daily strip Bringing Up Father (since 1935) when drafted for WWII military service. As Pvt. Zeke Zekley (note the signature, here), the artist proved indispensible as a designer of motivational posters for the Army. (Stationed on the home front near McManus' studio, Zekley kept working on Bringing Up Father. Zekley stayed in McManus's employ until the elder's death in 1954 -- but was passed over as a possible successor.) This grim example of Zekley's war-effort work, in nursery-rhyme fashion, depicts a soldier who is stupid enough to spill a military secret to Adolf, himself. The original art contains ink and white paint over graphite on thin Bristol-like board.

Artwork measures 14x19”

Poster measures 13.5x17.5”

Condition- very good, original art work has some text panels missing, some staining and small paper loss, the poster had some toning and handling wear.
