Victory Over Japan Exhibition Poster

One for the real history buffs! An exhibition poster for the exhibit originally titled “War Against Japan”, however the poster was later edited and the title of the exhibition was changed to “Victory Over Japan”. That is because the Japanese announced their surrender on 8-15-45 and the poster was printed before then, but was printed just after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which occurred on 8/6 and 8/9. Note the smoke billowing from the rising sun, alluding to the brutal end for the empire via the atomic bomb. The exhibit was only open for 6 weeks and admission was free of charge. We have never seen another example of this rare poster.

Measures 19.5x29.5”

Condition- excellent on linen, slight restoration top right corner.
